Teen killed in Dawson Springs shooting

Kentucky State Police is investigating the fatal shooting of a Dawson Springs teen. Troopers were called to Hosick Avenue in Dawson Springs about 1:20 a.m. Tuesday and determined that 16-year old Dakota Carter of Dawson Springs had been shot. He later died at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, according to a news release. KSP is Conducting a Death Investigation in Hopkins County – kentuckystatepolice org

Dawson Springs, Ky. (Hopkins County) – On Tuesday,  June 1, 2021, around 1:19 AM, the Kentucky State Police Post 2, Madisonville was requested by the Hopkins County Sheriff’s Department to investigate a shooting on Hosick Avenue in Dawson Springs. Preliminary investigation revealed that Dakota Carter, 16, of Dawson Springs had suffered a gunshot wound. Dakota was transported to Baptist Health Hospital in Madisonville, then flown by helicopter to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, TN where he succumbed to his injuries. The investigation is ongoing and foul play is suspected. Union County splits games with Dawson Springs, Crittenden County

Union County ended the regular season with a pair of games Saturday on the road, beating Dawson Springs 20-8 and falling to Crittenden County 7-2.  Cannon Sheffer had a big game in the win over Dawson Springs. The sophomore was 3-for-4, drove in four runs and was also the winning pitcher as he worked the first 2 2/3 innings of the game that was stopped after five innings by the mercy rule. Sheffer (3-0) allowed two hits and four unearned runs, while striking out four.  Ben Hargrove was 3-for-3 with a pair of doubles and two RBIs. Hunter Hopper was 2-for-5 with three runs batted in, while Riley Cullen was 2-for-2. 

Dawson Springs father, son charged with meth trafficking

A Dawson Springs father and son were arrested Wednesday on methamphetamine trafficking charges. Detectives with the Madisonville-Hopkins County Vice/Narcotics Unit received tips from the public regarding 52-year old Charles “Jeff” Parker and 28-year old Jeffery Parker allegedly selling meth. A search warrant was obtained for a home at 12490 Nortonville Road and a news release says police seized over a quarter-pound of meth, multiple firearms and paraphernalia consistent with drug trafficking. Both men were arrested for trafficking in meth, with the elder Parker also charged with possession of a handgun by a felon. Three other people in the home were also arrested, with 64-year old William Lively and 35-year old Lorena Halbur charged with possession of a handgun by a felon; and 22-year old Shelby Cunningham charged with possession of meth and trafficking in prescription pills.
