After three years of cancellations due to poor weather and unforeseen circumstances, representatives from K.A.R.E. for Kids are happy to announce that their annual Easter egg hunt is back and better than ever. Children rushed onto the fields at Veteran’s Memorial Park and gathered up the more than 40,000 Easter eggs in a matter of minutes during the community egg hunt on April 3.

Students from the Dawson County High School Future Farmers of America (FFA) club recently placed second overall in a regional livestock evaluation contest, advancing their team to the statewide competition.
According to FFA Advisor and Agricultural Sciences Teacher Keith Pankey, the competition included evaluations of livestock animals as well as an exam on basic livestock knowledge.
“The team had to place beef heifers, market goats, market lambs and market hogs,” Pankey said. “As well, the team had an exam on basic livestock knowledge. The students had to write and present oral reason on Charolais heifers and crossbred market hogs justifying their placeme

Members of the Dawson County High School Future Farmers of America (FFA) club recently placed fifth in a regional veterinary science contest.
According to Keith Pankey, FFA advisor and agricultural sciences teacher at Dawson County High School, the contest included a range of questions related to the veterinary science field.
“The contest consisted of basic knowledge questions on small animal care, scientific names and veterinary care,” Pankey said. “Also, the students had to identify veterinary surgical equipment, parasites, livestock and small animal breeds.”
