The new infections brought the total tally to 44,186 with 225 deaths. Among the community cases, 2,420 were reported in the southern epicenter Ho Chi Minh City, 166 in the nearby southern Binh Duong province, and 158 in the southern Dong Thap province. Nationwide, as many as 10,020 COVID-19 patients have so far recovered, up 332 from Thursday. As of Friday, Vietnam has registered a total of 42,179 domestically transmitted COVID-19 cases, including 40,609 detected since the start of the latest outbreak in late April, according to the health ministry.
