Covid-19: 14 new clusters, six linked to education sector

In his daily Covid-19 updates, Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said three of the clusters involving the education sector were in Kelantan, while the rest were in Sabah, Johor and Kedah. One of them, named the Jalan Hospital cluster, involves staff and students of a school at Kampung Kubang Terap in Pasir Mas, Kelantan. “The index case of this cluster had developed symptoms and later tested positive on April 13. “A total of 525 individuals had to be screened, and 50 positive cases have been confirmed under this cluster,” said Dr Noor Hisham. In Johor, the Jalan Medan Aliff cluster involves an education centre located in Taman Damansara Aliff, Johor Baru.

Covid-19: Healthcare workers infected after vaccination had less severe symptoms, says Health DG

PETALING JAYA: Healthcare workers who were infected with Covid-19 after being vaccinated reported less severe symptoms, says Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah. It is clear that we still can be infected after the completion of vaccination but perhaps less in severity, he said. He added that 40 healthcare workers have been infected with Covid-19 despite being fully vaccinated. Dr Noor Hisham said that nine cases were infected more than two weeks after the second dose and 31 cases were infected less than two weeks after receiving their second dose of the vaccine. He added in a Facebook post on Saturday (April 17) that 142 healthcare workers were infected after the first dose.

Covid-19: Total of 434,301 people have completed both doses as of Thursday (April 15)

Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba ( pic) said during the same period, 671,589 individuals received their first dose, bringing the total number of Covid-19 vaccine doses administered in the country to 1,105,890. In an infographic shared on his official Twitter account Friday (April 16), he said the five states with the most recipients administered with the first dose were Selangor with 93,829, followed by Kuala Lumpur (73,266), Sarawak (67,427), Johor (63,295) and Sabah (55,734). The five states with the highest number of recipients who had completed both doses so far were Selangor with 61,662 individuals, followed by Perak (48,607), Sabah (42,972), Kuala Lumpur (37,962) and Pahang (33,080). As for the number who have signed up for the immunisation programme, Dr Adham said as of Thursday, a total of 8,834,823 people or 36.4% of the target had registered with Selangor recording the highest number at 2,333,514.

PETALING JAYA: Seven new Covid-19 clusters were reported on Friday (April 16), three of which are linked to workplaces. Two other clusters were linked to detention centres, and one each to a community and an education centre, Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said. The Jalan Sultan Iskandar cluster in Bintulu, Sarawak, is linked to a public institution where 27 cases have been detected out of 440 individuals tested. The Jalan Balakong cluster in Hulu Langat, Selangor, with 19 cases was detected after screening of workers at a construction site, while the Jalan Kia Peng cluster in Kuala Lumpur involved an entertainment centre where eight people tested positive.
