Authorities searching for possibly armed suspect

The Dispatch Authorities in Davidson and Randolph Counties are looking for a man they say committed an assault Wednesday afternoon.  Deputies with the Davidson County Sheriff s Office responded to an assault call at 4:50 p.m. on Cabin Creek Road near Denton. The suspect, Dustin Diehl, drove away from the scene and was pursued by deputies into Randolph County, according to a Facebook post from the Davidson County Sheriff s Office.  Deputies said Diehl crashed his vehicle near Gopher Woods Road / Old Highway 49, where he got out of the vehicle and fled on foot into the woods nearby.  At 8 a.m. on Thursday, a resident on Moore Rd. called 911 saying they saw Diehl running from a barn, according to a press release from the Randolph County Sheriff s Office. Deputies arrived at 8:06 a.m. and saw Diehl. They began chasing him on foot before losing him in the woods, deputies said.

Updated: 7:18 PM EST Feb 4, 2021 WXII12.com Web Staff Authorities arrested Dustin Diehl Thursday after more than two weeks of trying to find the man accused of assault who has led authorities on multiple chases. At about 6:45 a.m., the Randolph County Sheriff s Office Criminal Apprehension Team, Davidson County deputies and agents from the U.S. Marshal s Carolinas Regional Fugitive Task Force located and apprehended Diehl at a house on Cabin Creek Road in Denton.Click the video player below to hear a woman and child s experience spotting Diehl on their front porch.Officials said they had been keeping an eye on the location where they found Diehl until they were ready to move in and evacuated a woman and a child before the arrest.Diehl was found hiding in the house and law enforcement said they had to take out a wall to take him into custody.The woman in the home, police said, was charged with Felony Harboring an Escapee along with Resisting a Public Officer.
