Works on the $230 million Townsville Ring Road Stage 5 (TRR5) are now underway, with the first sod being turned on the project in Townsville today.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development Barnaby Joyce said the project demonstrated the Federal Liberal and Nationals Government’s ongoing commitment to regional Queensland.
“The TRR5 project will duplicate the remaining six-kilometre, two-lane section of the Townsville Ring Road and deliver significant improvements in safety and freight efficiency through the city,” the Deputy Prime Minister said.
“Under the 15-year, $13 billion Bruce Highway Upgrade Program, we are continuing to invest in safety, flood resilience and capacity upgrades along the Bruce Highway between Brisbane and Cairns.
A baby girl has died after being struck by the family car outside her home.
Baby Alice Lambert was killed on June 25 in Aitkenvale in Townsville as the family were getting ready to leave for a holiday.
The toddler had just began walking when she was hit by the family car.

Minister for Health and Ambulance Services Yvette D’Ath has officially opened an expanded and refurbished paediatric treatment area in Townsville University Hospital’s emergency department.
Minister D’Ath said the Palaszczuk Government contributed $1.6 million towards the project, which has expanded the number of beds from seven to 12 and created a separate waiting area for children and their families.
“Visiting a hospital can be daunting for children when they’re surrounded by big people and big equipment,” she said.
“That’s why we’ve invested in this new treatment area to create a child-friendly space right within the ED.

A teenage girl was allegedly raped at a party after a group of boys bet a carton of beer over who could sleep with her first.
The 16-year-old was in tears and unable to stand after the alleged attack at the July 2020 gathering, a court has heard.
An 18-year-old male, who was then 17, was charged with three counts of rape and plead not guilty, reports the Townsville Bulletin.
