Thelma Plum has taken out the top place in the world’s largest music prize for songwriting, for her 2019 hit, Better In Blak. Her work as a proud Gamilaraay singer-songwriter has pocketed $50,000 in the Vanda & Young Songwriting Competition for 2020, after placing as a runner-up back in 2013 for  Breathe In, Breathe Out.

Hottest 200 Of 2020 - Here Are The Tracks That Missed The Hottest 100

They beat out some strong local competition with Spacey Jane’s ‘Booster Seat’ landing at #2 and Flume and Toro y Moi’s ‘The Difference’ at #3. Northern Beaches crew Lime Cordiale had a blinder, with five songs appearing in the top 30 of the countdown. On Sunday, triple j counted down the Hottest 200 the tracks that  just missed the final cut of the main ranking. Middle Kids snaffled #101 with ‘R U 4 Me?’, while Tame Impala came in at #200 with ‘Posthumous Forgiveness’. Tkay Maidza, meanwhile, received some justice for missing out on the top 100 with her excellent track ‘Shook’ by taking out #125.

Following Glass Animals topping the Hottest 100, we’ve now counted down the other hundred hottest songs of 2020.  The Hottest 200 is the countdown for those wondering ‘where the heck did my other votes go!?’ and the artist who just missed making the main event? It’s actually the fourth year in a row they’ve been in the Hottest 200, though ‘Mistake’ made the Hottest 100 of 2018 (at #64) while Paul Dempsey’s Like A Version performance of their breakout single ‘Edge of Town’ came #88 in the Hottest 100 of 2017.  

ABC s The Sound is hosting a Making Gravy Christmas Special this weekend

Headlined by Paul Kelly, the ‘Making Gravy Christmas Special’ will feature a huge spread of Australian talent. Hosted by Jane Gazzo and Bridget Hustwaite,  The Sound‘s 2020 finale will feature performances from The Teskey Brothers with Orchestra Victoria, Baker Boy with Dallas Woods and Sampa The Great, Ball Park Music, Vika & Linda Bull, Dan Sultan with Leah Flanagan, Alex Lahey and Alex The Astronaut. Launched in July, the series has hosted a stellar list of classic and emerging acts across its first year, including Kate Ceberano, DMA’s, Nick Cave, Jessica Mauboy, Courtney Barnett, and loads more.
