(Photo supplied) The vulnerable population in Oshawa is getting some extra support. The Region of Durham is moving forward with the Oshawa Micro-Housing Pilot Project, which will see a 10-unit micro-home community in central Oshawa. Occupancy is projected for fall 2021 and will offer temporary transitional housing, with various supports, including financial assistance, employment services, mental health and addictions support, life skills and more, according to the region.

Durham council approves 2021 budget with a slight increase Posted on March 16, 2021 by oshawaexpress in NEWS, REGION Oshawa and Durham residents are looking at a 1.98 per cent property tax increase for this year. Durham Regional Council recently approved the $1.488 billion budget, which is funded 48.9 per cent from property taxes. This year, residents will see a 1.98 per cent increase on the region’s portion of their property tax bill, or approximately $55 for the average residential home assessed at $483,100. Despite the fiscal pressures facing the region due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Durham Regional Chair John Henry says the regional departments presented a budget for 2021 that “upholds our high-quality programs and services, support key priorities and maintains taxpayer affordability.”

In a recent letter to Premier Doug Ford, French asked for the province to support Durham Regional Council’s recent call for an investigation into Sunnycrest Nursing Home in Whitby and ThorntonView Long Term Care Home in Oshawa.
