Charges of attempted murder opened against Metro cop accused of forcing teens to drink petrol

Durban- The Durban Metro cop who allegedly forced two special-needs teens at gunpoint to drink petrol after accusing them of theft has been charged with attempted murder.
Police spokesperson, Captain Nqobile Gwala said: “Charges of attempted murder and kidnapping are being investigated by Mariannhill SAPS.
“It is alleged that on 12 April 2021 at 10:00, a 13-year-old boy was assaulted by a suspect and was forced to drink petrol after being suspected of burglary. The matter is still under investigation and no arrests had been made.”
KwaZulu-Natal Social Development MEC Nonhlanhla Khoza expressed her disgust at the incident.
Woman s body recovered near Durban pier

Durban - The police are investigating an inquest after the body of a female was recovered near the Durban pier on Tuesday evening.
According to KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Captain Nqobile Gwala, the body of a woman believed to be in her fifties was found in the water at Bay of Plenty pier.
âThe matter is still under investigation.
âThe deceased has not been identified.â
According to Durban metro spokesperson,Parbhoo Sewpersad, members of Durban Metro search and rescue were called to recover the victim who was partially dressed about 150 metress from shore.
âUnfortunately she was declared deceased on the scene.â

JOHANNESBURG, March 9 (Xinhua) The South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) on Monday condemned the recent attacks directed at foreign nationals in the city centre of Durban.
The condemnation came after shops owned by migrants were attacked allegedly by members of the uMkhonto weSizwe Military Veterans Association (MKMVA), a military wing of the ruling African National Congress. The SAHRC is deeply concerned by the recent attacks on non-nationals, which commenced on Sunday . at the Soldiers Way Market trading precinct/area in the Durban CBD that left several non-nationals including women injured and traumatised, the commission said in a statement.

Durban Metro has urged motorists to be extra cautious, with more rain forecast throughout the day.
Metro s Parboo Sewpersad says roads affected include, JG Champion Drive near Sunford in Phoenix and the M4 Southern Freeway - heading towards Durban before Quality Street.

Other routes to avoid are Station Road in Phoenix and the R102 towards Broadlands.
Mount Edgecombe Temple as well as Phoenix Highway in the vicinity of Phoenix Technical School are also reportedly water logged.
Sewpersad advises motorists to reduce their speed and ensure their brakes and wipers are working before getting into their vehicle. Increase following distance and stay alert.
