Today, the Speaker of the City of Cape Town, Dirk Smit, has presided over his last council meeting, and after 45 years in public service, he will be retiring effective from 30 April 2021.
The Democratic Alliance (DA) in the Western Cape would like to thank Dirk for his dedicated service, not only as Speaker of the City Council but also as councillor and committed member of the DA. Dirk has performed his duties with distinction and he leaves behind large shoes for his predecessors to fill.
