ROTTERDAM – The Town Board and the town highway superintendent are at odds over who is paving the town’s streets and what streets should be paved.
The battle between the town and Highway Superintendent Larry Lamora got heated Wednesday evening during a public comment period at the Town Board meeting. Lamora addressed town officials for more than the four minutes allotted for public input when Town Supervisor Steven Tommasone took a political jab at Lamora.
“You want to blame everybody else for your missteps and your inability, but you know what?,” Tommasone said. “You have to live in Rotterdam in order to be highway superintendent.”

I have zero tolerance for those who accept lies over truth.
Like people who still believe Trump won the election and Biden cheated. It’s not just the Big-Lie pundits on MAGA television and radio, it includes 70% of Republicans. They also claim that the Jan. 6 insurrection was just a protest, or it didn’t happen.
Regarding the pandemic, about 50% of Republicans won’t take the COVID-19 vaccine, believing the virus is not real, it hasn’t been proven to work (Tucker Carlson) or simply because the Democrats want them to.

I found the views of Sen. Ron Johnson (R) Wisconsin, on coronavirus vaccinations ill-informed and ignorant.
The senator asks the question, “What do you care if your neighbor has one or not?”
I care, senator, because pods of unvaccinated individuals like those stalwarts in the Fulton County law enforcement community (The Gazette April 10 article “COVID outbreak hits jail”) and in Republican/Trumpist enclaves generally, provide a cozy petri dish for the production of mutants of the virus against which our vaccines might have difficulty protecting us.
In the end, the “You can’t make me” mindset can only prolong our battle against this scourge.

The clerk is denying all the claims.
“The allegations are not true,” said Town Clerk Diane Marco in an email Thursday. “My priority is serving the people of Rotterdam. Always has been and always will be. I love this town. It is a privilege and honor to be a Rotterdam town clerk.”
Sometime before Jan. 12, 2021, a complaint was filed against Marco by an unnamed employee. The investigation by Public Sector HR Consultants concluded that Marco violated the town’s employee handbook by using “offensive or unprofessional behavior that is contrary to the town’s best interest, or any conduct that does not warrant public trust.”
