Lawmakers in the senate and house approved the bill that redirects money that went towards affordable housing to other causes. Locals who help the poor say the timing could not be worse for this bill. The CEO of The Lord s Place, a non-profit that helps people find affordable housing, says the demand is greater than ever right now as people struggle financially due to the pandemic. Diana Stanley says affordable housing not only helps the chronically homeless; it assists people with disabilities, the elderly, and veterans.

And the owner of a Boynton Beach shopping center, where a large tenant shut down during the coronavirus pandemic, is working on a plan to turn part of the development into multi-family housing. The nearly year-long coronavirus pandemic decimated the county s tourism and hospitality industries, but it hasn t hurt the county s dominant real estate industry.
