AK-47 will need nerves of steel in the long fight to make Labour count again

The Labour Party s paltry 3pc opinion poll rating last week couldn t but bring to mind the immortal line uttered 40 years ago by then leader Frank Cluskey. Trust Michael D. Faced with a choice between saving the world or saving the Labour Party, he takes the easy option, Cluskey quipped, only half in jest, on being told at a crisis party meeting that Mr Higgins was on an emergency mission in the Middle East. If anything, the challenge now looks even more daunting for Alan Kelly, the latest man charged with saving Labour. This weekend 10 years ago, Kelly had been newly elected to the Dáil, one of 37 Labour TDs savouring the party s best ever election result.

Big €15m boost for NTA projects across Fingal

Fingal County Council has received almost €15 million in funding from the National Transport Authority for sustainable transport projects around the county. Some €14,870,000 provided from the NTA will help progress 23 projects across Fingal such as the Harry Reynolds Road Cycle Track, Donabate Estuary walking and cycling route and the Broadmeadow Way. These projects are part of a wider sustainable transport infrastructure programme to tackle climate change. Providing safe and sustainable infrastructure will undoubtedly assist the growing numbers of cyclists who are now using the roads in towns and villages across Fingal over the past years. The Mayor of Fingal, Cllr. David Healy welcomed the announcement: This is wonderful news. We are seeing many more people in Fingal walking and cycling due to the pandemic, so it is crucial that we develop quality routes for walking and cycling to allow greater movement within our communities. These projects will improve safety for people

TD calls on Government to safeguard aviation jobs

Fine Gael and Dublin Fingal TD, Alan Farrell has called on the Government to act decisively in order to safeguard the future of the Irish aviation industry and the jobs that rely on it. Deputy Farrell said: The introduction of the Ireland Strategic Investment Fund (ISIF), was an important and necessary step to ensuring the long-term health of medium and large businesses. Minister Paschal Donohoe s creation of the Pandemic Stability and Recovery Fund (PSRF) and the additional €2 billion at its disposal was equally important for the support of large employers within the State. I believe that the situation within the Irish aviation industry is at a critical juncture and Government must ensure that as many jobs are protected as possible.
