Cancellation of Dublin Horse Show casts doubt on large-scale summer events RDS says there is too much uncertainty around to plan ahead for the event

The Dublin Horse Show has been cancelled for the second year in a row.
Last year’s show was an early casualty of the Covid-19 pandemic and was cancelled in April.
Despite the brightening picture as a result of the Covid-19 vaccination programme, the RDS has decided to cancel this year’s international show, which was due to be held between August 18th and 22nd.
The organisers said there is too much uncertainty around the opening of the country to allow the show to go ahead as planned.

This is the second consecutive year the show has been lost, owing to coronavirus.
Organisers Royal Dublin Society (RDS) announced today (6 May) that the Dublin Horse Show would not be going ahead; instead, the society is planning to hold a RDS National Championships for selected national showing and showjumping competitions from 18-22 August.
“The RDS has been monitoring the evolving situation regarding Covid-19, including the vaccination rates and the latest Government advice,” said the statement.

The event is a much-loved focal point in the calendar for horse-traders and equestrian enthusiasts across this country and beyond, and it is very much tied to its date of June 23. “It is more or less set in stone and that’s meant we’re not really in a position to defer or postpone the fair,” explained Chairperson of the event committee Brian Clune. “The date is tied in with other big events in Clare like the Willie Clancy Summer School and then the likes of the Dublin Horse Show and the Ballinasloe Horse Fair.
