(Enterprise photo â Lou Reuter) TUPPER LAKE Elaina Daniels said keeping her eye on graduation is what got her through her senior year at Tupper Lake High School during the coronavirus pandemic. It was a very hard year educationally, she said. “I feel like it’s been all work and barely any reward,” she said Monday. “This was supposed to be the year that was rewarding, and it just really hasn’t been.”
June Zande of Tupper Lake passed away on Wednesday, April 21, 2021, at her home. She was born Feb. 11, 1927, in Cranberry Lake to Katharine and George McAleese. June attended the local school and graduated from Tupper Lake High School in 1944. She attended Champlain Valley Nursing School in Plattsburgh, graduating as a registered nurse in 1947. June was employed by the Veterans Administration Hospital in Tupper Lake for nine years before it transitioned into Sunmount DDSO, where she worked for 15 years until her retirement. She earned the respect of her co-workers and supervisors for her exemplary performance and work ethic. She was even nominated by her peers and awarded “Employee of the Year” at a ceremony in Albany.

(Photo provided) TUPPER LAKE Libby Gillis earned the Girl Scouts’ highest level, the Gold Award, in October 2020 for her work to raise awareness about climate change. A Gold Award is equivalent to the Boy Scouts’ Eagle Scout designation. Gillis is a junior at Tupper Lake High School and the daughter of Robert Gillis and Lisa Littlefield-Gillis. She is part of Girl Scouts of Northeastern New York Service Unit 454, Troop 4123 of Tupper Lake. With the support of her school’s environmental club, the Green Team, Gillis started an annual Green (spirit) Week at her school. She also created a Green Week video to raise awareness outside of the school, which won awards at the AdkAction Beyond the Peaks Student Film Festival, in both its category and second place in the Audience Choice category. Dorothy E. Newtown was born on June 28, 1925 in Piercefield, NY. She was a daughter of the late Joseph and Charlotte (LaGrave) Patnode and a graduate of Tupper Lake High School.
