FCT Requires N2 6bn to Fix 25,000 Vandalised Assets

By Olawale Ajimotokan The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Muhammad Musa Bello, has stated that the FCT Administration would require N2.6 billion to replace 25,462 assets that were vandalised in the territory. He disclosed this yesterday at the Town Hall meeting on the protection of public infrastructure organised in Abuja by the Ministry of Information and Culture. Bello made the revelation just as the Minister of Transportion, Rotimi Amaechi, said the National Assembly should consider the call by the public to enact a law making the vandalisation of railway track punishable by death. The FCT minister said findings few weeks ago revealed that 400 foul water manholes covers, 582 storm water covers and 23,210 gully pot covers were vandalised in the territory.

The elders, who stated their opposition to the action, attributed it to some criminals, led by a secessionist, Sunday Adeyemo also known as Sunday Igboho, and said the development was inimical to the country’s unity, which they stand for.

The statement signed by their National Coordinator, Dr. Tunde Aremu and National Secretary, Barrister Folake Ajasin, respectively, the elders said the action does not represent the Yoruba people. Expressing shock that such ugly development can happen in Yorubaland which they noted, had been in the forefront of a united Nigeria, the elders tasked security agencies to swing into action and arrest the culprits so they can face the wrath of the law. “We received with utmost shock and disbelief the burning down of the residence of Sarkin Fulani Oyo State, his livestock and 11 cars, by some suspected criminals in Yoruba land allegedly instigated by one Sunday Adeyemo otherwise known as Igboho.
