PETALING JAYA: More oil palm plantation companies are venturing into agriculture-related businesses, from dairy farming to pineapple and coconut cultivation, on a large-scale basis in their efforts to further diversify income streams. is expected to harvest pineapples and other cash crops in early 2022 at its Sagil estate in Tangkak, Johor.(pic)
The group said some 25,000 MD2 pineapples have been planted each month since August 2020.
“By December 2020, a staggering 125,000 MD2 pineapples had been successfully planted with the minimal workforce.

(pic) said of the new cases, 161 were from existing clusters while 54 were from the two new clusters, namely the Parit Pulai 55 cluster in Johor Baru and Bukit Tiga Setengah cluster in Batu Pahat.
He said 206 of the new cases were detected through close contact screening while the rest were from other screenings.
Johor Baru district recorded the most new cases with 707, followed by Kulai (142), Batu Pahat (30), Pontian (25), Kota Tinggi (21), Muar (18), Segamat and Kluang (eight each), Tangkak (four) and Mersing (one).
Vidyanathan said one death was recorded on Wednesday, a 76-year-old local patient with a history of diabetes, high blood pressure, heart problems and stroke.
KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 3): IOI Corp Bhd said that within the early months of 2022, the oil palm planter expects to reap a bountiful harvest of MD2 pineapples as well as other cash crops when they are ripe for harvest.
In a statement on its website yesterday (Feb 2), IOI Corp said that with the tenacity and persistency of its Tangkak, Johor-based Sagil Estate team, 25,000 MD2 pineapples have been planted each month since August 2020. By December 2020, a staggering 125,000 MD2 pineapples had been successfully planted with minimal workforce. These pineapples were intercropped between rows of aromatic green dwarf/pandan coconut trees and other crops such as bananas and kenaf at Sagil Estate, IOI Corp said.

PETALING JAYA: The health ministry has reported a record high 5,728 Covid-19 cases, three more than yesterday’s new high. There were also 13 deaths reported in the past 24 hours.
Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said there were 3,805 recoveries, bringing the total number of those discharged to 161,527.
In a statement, Noor Hisham said the total number of infections now stands at 209,661.

There are 47,388 active cases, with 319 patients being treated in intensive care and 120 requiring respiratory assistance.
Meanwhile, the 13 deaths take the number of fatalities to 746.
The new cases today involved 5,723 local infections and five imported cases.
JOHOR BARU: The Johor Health Department, which opened a Covid-19 Assessment Centre (CAC) at the Bukit Indah health clinic on Jan 10 to assess the condition of positive patients, will set up more similar facilities in the state. The Health Department is also in the process of setting up 12 more CACs throughout the state, said state health and environment committee chairman R. Vidyananthan
(pic). The centre was set up to fulfil the needs of Covid-19 positive patients who have yet to be hospitalised to get medical consultation and early health checks. When a person tests positive for Covid-19, they will be referred to the centre for a health evaluation. They will then either be referred to the hospital or be quarantined at home.
