Roger L. Evans Lt. Col. (retired)
Nov. 4, 1930 Jan. 28, 2021
Roger L. Evans, 90, passed away peacefully at Rockville Terrace Assisted Living on Jan. 28, 2021, with family at his side. He was born Nov. 4, 1930, in Douglas, Arizona, to William Evans and Ethel Rogers.
A few years after graduating high school, he received ‘greetings from Uncle Sam,’ which was really an invitation to participate in the Korean War. Having already developed a keen interest in aviation from building and flying model airplanes as a young boy, Roger elected to play by Air Force rules, so on Feb. 20, 1951, he joined the Air Force.
Roger began his Air Force pilot training at Goodfellow AFB in San Angelo, Texas, flying the North American T-6, then it was on to Vance AFB in Enid, Oklahoma, flying the T-28 and his first multi-engine, the North American B-25. He always remembered the day he soloed the B-25: Feb. 23, 1954.
AS expected, Harry and Meghan have opted to continue enjoying their current luxurious celebrity lifestyle in California, funded by cashing in on the novelty interest there in them and their royal status, rather than carrying out the irksome duties of senior royals here ( Harry and Meghan stripped of patronages after finalising split , The Herald February 20). Who can blame them? That is their choice and good luck to them, but of course their decision will have consequences, such as the fact that they can’t have their cake and eat it as they expected they could. Time will tell how well they, and Harry in particular, will cope as with familiarity the interest from the media in them and their celebrity status wanes.
Moredun s Scientific Director Julie Fitzpatrick WITHOUT CONTINUED investment in infectious disease research in livestock, Scotland will not be able to call on animal health expertise in the event of future biological challenges. The Moredun Research Institute played an invaluable role in the Covid-19 effort, lending both its expertise and facilities – however its funding avenues are drying up and it could soon be facing difficult decisions over which disease research should be placed on the backburner. Moredun currently receives £5,800,000 in annual support from the Scottish Government – 55% of its total funding – a pot which has already been reduced by around 40% since 2011. “We have got to a point where further cuts will require a reduction in head count and if we do that, then we are having to make decisions about which areas of science we fund and which areas of science we do not fund,” warned the chairman of the Moredun Foundation, Ian Duncan Miller.
THERE has always been a proportion of fraud in any US election ( Trump s election fraud claims taking root among Republicans , The Herald, December 10). Just one instance is the California county which in a previous election managed to have 120 per cent of those eligible to vote recorded as voting. The most significant event was not as the article seemed to focus on the cases in federal and state courts, as these were almost inevitably going to go against the President. The action of the Texas Attorney General (AG) has the potential to be the game changer. As he is accusing four states of unconstitutional administration of the voting process this will be heard by the Supreme Court, therefore bypassing these states courts. If the Supreme Court finds in favour of the Texas AG then these states electoral college vote will not be counted and Trump will have won the election. Up to now it has just been local skirmishes but now the real battle is enjoined. I am sure the Democrats ar
