Roger L. Evans Lt. Col. (retired)
Nov. 4, 1930 — Jan. 28, 2021
Roger L. Evans, 90, passed away peacefully at Rockville Terrace Assisted Living on Jan. 28, 2021, with family at his side. He was born Nov. 4, 1930, in Douglas, Arizona, to William Evans and Ethel Rogers.
A few years after graduating high school, he received ‘greetings from Uncle Sam,’ which was really an invitation to participate in the Korean War. Having already developed a keen interest in aviation from building and flying model airplanes as a young boy, Roger elected to play by Air Force rules, so on Feb. 20, 1951, he joined the Air Force.
Roger began his Air Force pilot training at Goodfellow AFB in San Angelo, Texas, flying the North American T-6, then it was on to Vance AFB in Enid, Oklahoma, flying the T-28 and his first multi-engine, the North American B-25. He always remembered the day he soloed the B-25: Feb. 23, 1954.
