Grantham Town make alternate Margaret Thatcher proposal
| Updated: 11:21, 01 April 2021
In a statement released this morning, Grantham Town made their own proposal concerning the Margaret Thatcher statue set for St. Peter s Hill.
Although the club has no desire to wade into the ongoing political debate regarding the merits, location and funding of the statue or otherwise, they have considered that a more apolitical approach is required for the vacant plinth.
The Gingerbreads are therefore suggesting that the statue artist Douglas Jennings could melt the bronze statue down and create a statue befitting a local legend.

That local legend, of course, being Adrian Speed, the club s record appearance holder, with 633 games in black and white.

The British Royal Family has come under criticism in the wake of the televised interview with Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, which aired on Sunday.
Among some of the explosive claims which arose from the broadcast, hosted by Oprah Winfrey, includes how at least one member of the Royal Family expressed concerns about the potential skin tone of the Duke and Duchess son, Archie.
Elsewhere, the duke said the relationship with his family has become so strained that his father, the Prince of Wales, is not returning his calls and Meghan said she had thoughts of self-harm and suicide while she was pregnant with her first child because of the intense scrutiny she received in the tabloid press.
Plans to spend up to £100,000 of public money on an unveiling ceremony for a statue of Margaret Thatcher in her home town have been abandoned after criticism that it was “nothing more than a party”.

Plans to use £100,000 of taxpayersâ money to underwrite an unveiling ceremony for a statue of Margaret Thatcher in her home town have been scrapped.
Councillors in Grantham, Lincolnshire were heavily criticised when they voted in December to set aside £100,000 to cover the costs of an event to reveal the statue, hoping donations would recoup the money.
The decision reignited divisions in the town over the statue and Thatcherâs legacy, and when the matter was put before a scrutiny committee on Monday it was decided delays caused by the coronavirus pandemic would provide enough time to raise the money through private donations.
