Banners in Clarks Summit honor veterans | Abington Journal

Listen to this Travel down State Street and surrounding streets to see the Hometown Hero banners dedicated to men who served their country. Currently there are 22 banners with 12 of those new this year. The banners have a picture of the person who served and their branch of service. The banners depict not only men but woman can also have a banner to recognize their service. The banners are hung the first week of May in observance of Memorial Day and will remain hanging until Veteran’s Day in November. “Clarks Summit resident Cindy Coleman saw the banners elsewhere and brought the idea to the Clarks Summit Borough Council,” said Gerrie Carey, Clarks Summit Borough Council president. “We thought it was a good idea and decided to move forward with it. These young men went to serve our country in time of conflict. Many were drafted. Once a year, we memorialize these veterans and recognize them with a banner.”

The Albemarle County Police Department announced Friday, April 23, that an investigation started back on March 23 had resulted in the arrest of 60-year-old Douglas Craig Maldonado. NAMED: Latest drug, drink-drivers to front Yeppoon court

The 19 year old, required to have a zero blood alcohol limit, blew 0.028 after police caught him driving on Yeppoon Road on February 5. The court heard Herbert, a construction worker, had a very limited traffic history. He was fined $400 and disqualified from driving for three months. P-plater Nathan Adam Johnson, 20, was caught drink-driving at Yeppoon on January 31. Johnson, required to have no alcohol in his system, blew 0.030 after police subjected him to a random breath test on Whitman Street. The court heard Johnson, a roofer, had no history of a like nature.
