The mother of a young Windsor man who died after accessing illegal drugs inside the South West Detention Centre said the family is “devastated,” and she asks how the correctional facility could have failed her son who has had opiate addiction issues.
“There’s just a sense of relief when he goes to jail, and you think everyone is safe that wasn’t the case here,” Kathryn Krug told the Star Friday.

Less than two weeks after being arrested and charged with attempted murder, a young Windsor man is dead following a fatal drug overdose while in custody at the South West Detention Centre.
Nathaniel Krug, 21, and a cellmate overdosed on the powerful opiate fentanyl on Wednesday, the Windsor Star has learned. Both were rushed to Windsor Regional Hospital but only one of the men survived.

Despite government claims of increased surveillance and inspections in Ontario’s jails, the South West Detention Centre in Windsor continues to experience drug overdoses and deaths among its inmate population.

PHOENIX The Christmas Day bombing in downtown Nashville led to phone and data service outages and disruptions over hundreds of miles in the southern U.S., raising new concerns about the vulnerability of U.S. communications.
The blast seriously damaged a key AT&T network facility, an important hub that provides local wireless, internet and video service and connects to regional networks. Backup generators went down, which took service out hours after the blast. A fire broke out and forced an evacuation. The building flooded, with more than three feet of water later pumped out of the basement; AT&T said there was still water on the second floor as of Monday.
