It’s been 70 years since a young Bernard Cote sat atop Hill 677 amid the brutal hell that was one of the Korean War’s bloodiest yet most pivotal battles.
But South Korea won’t forget. Its capital of Seoul was likely saved from invasion due in large part to the actions of a company of heavily outnumbered young Canadians, including a 22-year-old Cote, in the ferocious Battle of Kapyong on April 23-24, 1951.
