NuScale Power has gotten the go ahead to prepare a Combined License Application (COLA) to be submitted to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. The UAMPS COLA is expected to be submitted to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) by the second quarter of 2023.

NuScale, UAMPS Kick Off Idaho SMR Nuclear Plant Licensing
NuScale Power, Fluor Corp., and Utah Associated Municipal Power Systems (UAMPS) have executed a series of major agreements to prepare for licensing of the Carbon Free Power Project (CFPP) at Idaho National Laboratory (INL) in Idaho Falls, effectively driving forward the nation’s first small modular reactor (SMR) plant.
Fluor Corp., the majority investor in NuScale Power, on Jan. 11 said Utah state energy services intermodal agency UAMPS awarded the company a “cost-reimbursable development agreement to provide estimating, development, design and engineering services” for the CFPP. Agreements announced yesterday between NuScale Power and Utah Associated Municipal Power Systems (UAMPS) to facilitate the development of a project to deploy small modular reactors (SMRs) at the Idaho National Laboratory (INL) could lead to the placement of a first order for NuScale Power Modules in 2022.

NuScale Chairman and CEO John Hopkins said: This is the first step in a prudent deployment plan.
The Carbon Free Power Project (CFPP) will be a 720 MWe NuScale power plant, comprising up to 12 NuScale Power Modules, to be located at the US Department of Energy s (DOE) INL site. The latest orders are the result of recently signed agreements to manage and de-risk the project. They include the Development Cost Reimbursement Agreement between UAMPS and NuScale, and the USD1.355 billion multi-year Financial Assistance Award from the DOE to CFPP LLC, which is a wholly-owned subsidiary of UAMPS.
