At last night’s meeting, the board approved a one-year contract from 2021-2022 for Interim Superintendent Doug Weller with an annual salary of nearly $200,000. Director of Elementary Curriculum Julie Howard announced that all district students in transitional kindergarten through sixth grades will receive free backpacks on the last week of school filled with educational resources and parent-student activities to keep students learning through the summer. Assistant Superintendent Amy Woods announced that the nutritional services department has distributed 3 million meals to students and their families since the beginning of the pandemic.

At last night’s special meeting, Director of Secondary Curriculum Justin Howard outlined the district’s extensive proposal for allowing student athletes to return to indoor sports, primarily boys and girls basketball and wrestling. After a brief discussion, the board voted 4-0 (Trustee Kerri Condley being absent) to approve indoor athletics beginning April 19. The estimated 75-100 student athletes will be required to undergo mandatory COVID-19 testing twice per week with only approved athletes, coaches, and spectators allowed at practices and games.

Wikipedia Editors Label Capitol Riot as ‘Coup’ Attempt, Slant Election-related Content

After the January 6 Capitol riot, Wikipedia editors distorted the facts of the event and even categorized it as a “coup” despite objections. Editors have also misrepresented the fraud allegations surrounding the 2020 election and supporting evidence in order to discredit them. Several editors have even been banned due to comments criticizing Wikipedia’s bias on each subject.
Many Wikipedia editors have also pushed for other inflammatory characterizations of Trump’s election challenges and the Capitol protests and riot, though the worst characterizations have generally not been presented as fact due to intensely divided discussions.

The board will begin tonight’s meeting at 6 p.m. in closed session to hold a public employment discussion on the district’s superintendent position currently held by interim Superintendent Doug Weller. In open session, beginning at 7 p.m., the board will approve the 2019-2020 school accountability report cards, discuss the district’s annual audit, approve the completion of re-painting at Condor Elementary School, and approve five supplemental novels for sixth-grade reading. The meeting will be held via YouTube Live from the official MUSD YouTube page.
