There are just three months left for community groups to
apply for a portion of this year’s Bay of Plenty Regional
Council Environmental Enhancement funding, with grants of up
to $25,000 per project available.
Overall the Regional
Council has $300,000 available to environmental community
groups in the Bay of Plenty through the fund, which supports
local projects that aim to enhance, preserve or protect the
region s natural or historic character.

Councillors voted to push the issue out in favour of public consultation. However, days later the council back-peddled following a meeting between Hamilton Mayor Paula Southgate and Waikato-Tainui representatives. The mayor and five councillors then said they would revoke that decision at Thursday’s meeting.

Local Government New Zealand’s Regional Sector is welcoming a decision by the Government to allow for continued testing and deployment of improved intensive winter grazing practices, ahead of new regulations coming into effect next year.
The announcement comes after collaboration between a group of Southland farmers, environmental agencies, farming bodies and regional councils that provided recommendations to the Government on how to make new intensive winter grazing regulations more practical and effective to implement.
