Solar farm Millington Facebook Tennessee Valley Authority

View Comments The Tennessee Valley Authority and Facebook announced on Wednesday that the social media giant and public power provider will partner and build a 150-megawatt solar farm in Millington.  The solar farm will largely offset the electric demand of a Facebook data center in Gallatin, the companies said in a news release. Of its 150 megawatts, 110 will be accounted for by Facebook. It is nearly impossible to track which electrons flowing across TVA s seven-state footprint will actually power the Facebook data center, but the new farm allows the California-based company to say that it is not adding new carbon-burning electricity to TVA s grid.

RWE enters into solar energy agreement with Facebook and TVA

Advertisement RWE Renewables (RWE) has partnered with Facebook and the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) to realise a 150 MW solar facility in Shelby County, Tennessee, US. Facebook will use 110 MW of the solar energy to support the company’s data centre operations in Gallatin, Tennessee, and the broader Tennessee Valley. The plant is expected to start operations in late 2023, with start of construction in mid-2022. Through a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) with TVA, RWE will own and operate the plant. The financial investment decision for this plant is expected to be made once the permitting approval process will be completed.

GAS Let’s work together to eliminate the use of gas Ignoring any political spin, it just seems sensible and natural to eliminate the use of gas for heating, cooking, hot water or barbecues (TheAge, 5/5). Burning gas is directly producing emissions. Also, with the decreasing capacity of the Bass Strait gas field, it seems certain that gas prices will continue to rise.
