View Comments NORTH KITSAP – The state s Department of Transportation closed the Hood Canal Bridge Wednesday afternoon to make repairs after an apparent hit and run damaged the span overnight. The bridge was closed for less than an hour while temporary repairs were made. Permanent work on concrete barriers that were damaged in the collision will need to be completed at a later date, WSDOT spokesman Doug Adamson said. Damage to barriers along the eastbound lanes of the bridge was significant, Adamson said, estimating it was caused by a large vehicle, likely a semi truck. It is not something that ordinarily would happen with a small car, he said. This is built incredibly tough, the barrier did its job and kept the vehicle from going off, but this is a tremendous amount of damage, and that person who drove that vehicle must have known because of that damage.
