House speaker says student voices left out in shift online Gov. Kim Reynolds awaits the start of a Board of Regents meeting Tuesday, during which regents unanimously approved a new public-private partnership for the operation of the University of Iowa’s $1 billion utility system. Reynolds suggested the deal landing UI a $1.165 billion upfront payment could serve as a road map for similar ventures in the future. Reynolds sits next to Board of Regents President Mike Richards (left) and regents David Barker (immediate right) and Milt Dakovich on Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2019, in Urbandale. Iowa Legislature: Can Republicans cut taxes despite pandemic losses?

Des Moines Register The COVID-19 pandemic dealt a blow to Iowa’s revenues this year, but top Republicans are still hopeful they can cut Iowa taxes in the new year. Lawmakers received their first inkling of what the state budget could look like on Friday when a state panel predicted revenues would grow modestly in the upcoming fiscal year. The panel reviewed data showing the COVID-19 pandemic has caused significant financial damage to businesses, families and state revenues. We . actually are going to probably be one of the few states that we’ll be able to talk about tax reform again, Joel Anderson, an economic policy adviser to Gov. Kim Reynolds, told a group of Iowa business leaders last week.
