On Saturday, June 5, 2021, at approximately 8:50 p.m., police, fire and rescue personnel responded to the area of Baptist Church Road and Long Woods Lane on Chaptico Road in Mechanicsville, for a motor vehicle collision involving an overturned commercial vehicle.

UPDATE 4/19/2021 @ 10:00 a.m.: The suspected vehicle was located and the suspected driver in the fatal hit-and-run collision has been identified as Conrad Leland Young Jr., 32 of Mechanicsville.
Charges are currently under review with the Office of the State’s Attorney Office for St. Mary’s County.
The victim has been identified as Anthony Lawrence Ford, 19 of no fixed address.
On June 30, 2013, Conrad Leland Young, Jr., was arrested for DWI in St. Mary’s County by Deputy Lance.
On December 13, 2014, Conrad Leland Young Jr., was arrested for DWI in St. Mary’s County by Deputy K. Molitor.
April 16, 2021
UPDATE: On Friday, April 16, 2021 at 6:13 a.m., deputies from the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 27000 block of Three Notch Road in Mechanicsville for the report of a person lying on the ground off the southbound shoulder of the roadway.
Upon arrival, deputies located an unidentified male lying in the grass who was pronounced deceased. Investigation determined there was evidence to suggest the unidentified male was struck by a vehicle.
The St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office Collision Reconstruction Unit responded to the scene and continued the investigation.

The Mechanicsville VFD, along with the Leonardtown VFD will conduct a Live Fire Training Exercise on Sunday, April 11, 2021.
This training will be held on Baptist Church Road just prior to Burning Oaks Drive.
Please use caution driving in the area, and expect some slight delays periodically during the drill.
During this exercise, we are planning to burn a house at the owners request.
Training will begin at approximately 7:30 a.m., and will continue until approximately 1:00 p.m. We want the public to be aware that this will be a controlled burn, that will produce moderate to heavy smoke for several miles.
April 7, 2021
On Tuesday, April 6, 2021, at approximately 10:15 p.m., police responded to the 39000 block of Guy Family Way located off Baptist Church Road in Mechanicsville, for the reported unknown male inside of the 911 callers residence.
Police arrived on the scene to find that an unknown white male wearing a camo jacket entered the residence before fleeing the area on foot.
Officers searched the area for the suspect which yielded negative results.
Troopers from the Maryland State Police Leonardtown Barrack are investigating the incident.
