Five teenagers were in the car. Four of them, including the driver, were transported to Nyack Hospital or Westchester Medical Center for non-life threatening injuries. All of the teenagers were under the age of 18 and students at Suffern High School.
Patrick Breen, Suffern High School principal, wrote a letter to the school s community to inform them of the crash. Counseling and support services will be held at the school from noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday. A student death is a difficult and challenging situation that can generate a high level of anxiety and distress in some students and also may point out the reality of a child’s own mortality, Breen said. In addition, children may have had no experience in coping with a loss like this and may be confused as to how to handle grief. If you feel that your child(ren) is having difficulty, we encourage you to discuss their thoughts and feelings to help them work through their grief or concerns.
