THE HIGH COURT has approved a significant damages settlement for a teenage girl who suffered catastrophic injuries during her birth.
The settlement totals €23.5 million and is believed to be the largest such settlement in the State’s history.
16-year-old Kameela Kuye from Cork took the case against the HSE through her father Jimmy with the HSE settling the action without an admission of liability.

In December, a seven-judge military court in Lebanon found 76-year-old Mahmoud Bazzi guilty of the murders of Privates Thomas Barrett and Derek Smallhorne.
The verdict came five years after John stood in front of those judges to recount the events of 18 April 1980. That is the man who shot me, John told the court, pointing directly at Mr Bazzi.

Leitrim legend Packy McGarty (RIP).
Packy McGarty was hailed as one of the greatest footballers of all time as the passing of the legendary Leitrim footballer drew widespread sadness across the GAA community.
The proud Mohill clubman, who died this morning at the age of 87, is widely regarded as the best player ever to wear the Leitrim jersey.
Making his Leitrim senior debut at the tender age of 16, Packy went on to win Railway Cup medals on two different occasions and played in six Connacht SFC finals, including four-in-a-row against Galway, during an inter-county career which spanned from 1949 to 1971.
