Tasting prehistory

On March 6, Heritage Malta, through its Taste History unit, will be holding a unique culinary event spanning the 5,000 years of Maltese prehistory. The event, being held at the Malta Maritime Museum in Vittoriosa, will consist of a sit-down dinner for 40 people who will be able to sample some of the food consumed during different periods, namely the Early Neolithic Period, the Temple Period and the Bronze Age. The proposed menu is a mixture of what was found archaeologically and determined scientifically to have been available during these periods. Apart from the meat of two of the most common animals whose remains were found in Maltese prehistoric sites, guests will experience various grains that have over time been replaced in popularity with the common wheat, together with the produce of trees which are known to have been present at the time.

Whipped by Auntie Justyne – Manuel Delia

Three weeks ago, I got a call from the National Book Council. They informed me that the National Book Prize would be awarded on December 18 and the book I co-wrote with Carlo Bonini and John Sweeney, Murder on the Malta Express: Who Killed Daphne Caruana Galizia (Midsea Books), would be awarded the prize. I confess I was pleased. This is the first book with my name on it and it will surprise few people to learn that my bruised ego enjoys a cuddle from time to time. I was also a little surprised. The executive chairman of the National Book Council and I do not run a mutual admiration society and, in any case, all government agencies or entities have stayed as far away from Daphne’s story as they could manage.

Book chair apologises for foul language , says resignation call withdrawn

Updated 12.45pm, adds Graffitti statement National Book Chairman Mark Camilleri has apologised for his foul language on social media and has had his calls to resign removed after a conversation with the education minister, he said.  Camilleri had resisted the ministry s request for him to resign over a row with Juliette Galea, a lawyer for the businessman accused of conspiring to murder journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia. Galea had messaged him a link to an article about Yorgen Fenech s request for the public inquiry into the murder to be shut down. After a brief exchange in which she described him as stupid , he told her to kiss my glorious brown, Marxist ass.
