TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) Terre Haute is developing a plan to make the city more accessible for those with disabilities.
Over the last two years, the city of Terre Haute has been working on its Americans with Disabilities act Self -Evaluation and Transition Plan. The goal of the ADA is to eliminate discrimination against individuals with disabilities.
Terre Haute staff engineer Josey Daugherty says an evaluation was completed in the early 2000 s but was in need of an update. There s two parts to this transition plan. There is the self-evaluation portion which we looked at curb ramps, sidewalks, city-owned facilities, buildings, parks for ADA compliance, said Terre Haute staff engineer Josey Daugherty. The second part is the transition plan itself where it s kind of a road map to how we re going to bring these facilities into compliance.
