The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk wrestling team took the mat at Tim Grady Gymnasium for the final time in the 2020-21 season Thursday, hosting Wilton, Durant and West Liberty in a River Valley Conference quadrangular for Senior Night. Mid-Prairie started the night against the Wilton Beavers, falling in the opener 48-36. The Hawks got wins in contested matches from Kaden Meader at 170 by fall, Ben Meader at 182 by fall, Cael Garvey at 195 by fall, Josh Wallington at 220 by fall and Gannon Callahan at 285 by fall. The win for Wallington was the 100th of his career.
The Golden Hawks bounced back in their second action of the night, beating Durant 54-24. Mid-Prairie got wins in contested matches from Malachai Sexton at 106, Ben Meader at 182, Cael Garvey at 195, and Josh Wallington at 220 all by fall.

The Hawks also finished as team runners-up at WACO on Saturday, led by three champions with Cael Garvey at 195, Josh Wallington at 220 and Gannon Callahan at 285 all taking titles. Wallington’s 30-2 overall record leads Mid-Prairie this year while Mose Yoder, Ben Meader, Garvey, and Callahan all have 25 wins or more. Mid-Prairie will honor seniors Vinnie Bowlin, Dominic McCain, Meader, Gibson Lowenberg, Wallington and Michael Kelly. The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk wrestling team continues a busy section of their schedule tonight when they travel to Anamosa for a River Valley Conference quadrangular with Cascade, North Cedar and the Blue Raiders. Mid-Prairie comes in with an 8-8 dual record on the season after winning two of three at Wilton Tuesday, posting wins over Benton and North Linn but falling to the Beavers. Senior Josh Wallington leads the way for the Hawks with a 23-1 overall record. Ben Meader and Mose Yoder have also gotten to 20 wins this year.
Cascade is 11-9 on the year. The Cougars swept a River Valley triangular last week, taking down Durant and Tipton. The Cougars have one ranked wrestler in their lineup with Aidan Noonan at No. 1 in class 1A at 132lbs according to thepredicament.com. Mid-Prairie beat Cascade head-to-head last season 54-27.

The Hawks fell to Camanche 48-30. Mid-Prairie got wins in contested matches from Vinnie Bowlin at 160 by fall, and Gannon Callahan at 285 by fall. After the night, Mid-Prairie’s record stands at 6-7 on the year.

Last Thursday at Northeast Goose Lake they took two of three RVC contests, beating Northeast and Bellevue but falling to Camanche. The Hawks also wrestled at the Gary Curtis Invitational at Highland on Saturday where they placed fifth of 14 teams with 173 points crowning three champions in Vinnie Bowlin, Cael Garvey and Josh Wallington. Wallington leads the Golden Hawks with a 23-1 overall record. Ben Meader and Mose Yoder have also hit the 20 win mark.
