North Allegheny’s Lizzy Groetsch had 19 points and 13 rebounds against Mt. Lebanon on Wednesday night.
Lizzy Groetsch’s pass to the perimeter allowed Jasmine Timmerson to snap a cold spell midway through the first quarter for the North Allegheny girls basketball team.
Timmerson knocked down a 3-pointer that pulled the Tigers within one and stopped a string of four team misses from the perimeter.
Even when North Allegheny’s shooting touch wasn’t there, the Tigers ability to play a number of styles helped propel them to a 49-36 win over Mt. Lebanon in the WPIAL Class 6A semifinals Wednesday night at home.

Shaler bowling coach Shawn Pilyih gave freshman Braden Scott a quick hook in the Titans’ final regular-season match.
Pilyih was “average watching” and knew after Scott threw a 220, his cumulative mark was over the 170 threshold that would qualify for the Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Bowling League championships last Wednesday at Mt. Lebanon AMF Lanes.
Scott, whose average of 170.59 was ranked 19th of 35 varsity bowlers in the North section, made the most of his coach’s diligence.
Scott’s collective total of 563 buoyed by scores of 179, 191 and 193 allowed him to finish 12th and earn a spot at the Western Regionals on March 5 at North Versailles Bowl.

Competing as an unattached runner meant Facher couldn’t be fitted in her typical blue-and-red Shaler Area track attire.
“It was definitely weird,” Facher said. “I’m used to running for Shaler and seeing Shaler on my shirt. I felt like I was running for a team, but I was running for myself this time. It was weird.”
