ST. CLAIRSVILLE Another round of COVID-19 vaccine for Belmont County’s seniors is planned for today, but lack of communication from those wanting the vaccine has hampered the health department’s efforts.
Belmont County Deputy Health Commissioner Robert Sproul made his Wednesday report to the board of commissions, including plans to conduct another vaccination clinic today.
Because of the extreme cold weather, the clinic will be held indoors rather than as a drive-through event as in prior weeks.
“We have the clinic scheduled for Thursday. This time it’s going to be a walk-up,” Sproul said. “We’re going to move it inside. When the weather is better we’ll move back to the drive-through. The public seemed to like that.”

MARTINS FERRY The long wait is finally over East Ohio Regional Hospital is set to reopen at 11 a.m. today under new ownership.
Spokesman Mike Garrison said Wednesday that employees at the facility had been working day and night to get the facility ready to open its doors and start treating patients again.
“This community, as well as the broader Ohio Valley, deserves to have a solid community-focused hospital. I am very grateful to have the opportunity to reopen EORH and look forward to serving the area for years to come,” EORH owner Dr. John Johnson said.

ST. CLAIRSVILLE Jill Hunkler of Barnesville spoke to the Belmont County Board of Commissioners on Wednesday, asking members to further oppose a plan to install two saltwater injection wells at the intersection of U.S. 40 and Ohio 331.
The Ohio Department of Natural Resources issued permits late in 2020 to New Jersey-based Omni Energy Co. permitting the wells. Multiple local residents and officials have objected and raised a variety of concerns ranging from pollution to ground stability and increased truck traffic.
There are several residences, businesses and county agencies in the surrounding area, along with the Belmont Correctional Institution state prison.
