The Islanders play at Boston tonight, with third place on the line in the NHL East. New York trails the Bruins by one point in the NHL East. The Penguins have clinched the top seed and will play whichever team finishes fourth. The Bruins, who lost some games due to covid, will play the Capitals tomorrow night in the season finale. When the playoffs begin, Washington will play whichever team finished third in the East.

The 22-year old Maniscalco is playing his first professional season after signing with Pittsburgh as an undrafted free agent on August 21, 2020. The 6-foot-2, 200-pound defenseman has suited up for two games with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton this year. Prior to turning pro, the Perkiomenville, Pennsylvania native appeared in 71 collegiate games with the Arizona State Sun Devils over the course of two seasons, where he tallied 52 points (15G-37A). Despite only playing two seasons with the Sun Devils, his 52 points are sixth-most in team history.

Forward Anthony Angello has been recalled from the taxi squad, and defenseman Josh Maniscalco has been re-assigned to the taxi squad from the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins (AHL). Dumoulin, 29, has missed the last 15 games due to a lower body injury. In seven games for Pittsburgh this season, he has recorded one assist. In 354 career NHL games, Dumoulin has picked up 11 goals, 72 assists, 83 points and is plus-54.

PENGUINS STUMBLE IN SEASON OPENER AT PHILLY

  The Penguins outshot the Flyers, 34-25, but the penalty kill gave up two goals in three chances. Crosby’s goal for the Penguins came on the power play.   New third-line center Mark Jankowski scored the first goal of the 2021 NHL season.  He says the Penguins will get better.   The same two teams the ice again tomorrow night for a 7 o’clock faceoff in Philly.  Airtime on 92.5 FM WQMU will be at 6. Forward Zach Aston-Reese skated for a second day in a row with the practice squad.  He has just started skating after August shoulder surgery.  He is on the Pens’ injured reserve list with no clear timetable to return to the active roster.

PENGUINS ROSTER SET AS OPENER IN PHILLY LOOMS By Todd Marino Jan 12, 2021 6:59 AM The Penguins yesterday set their active roster and the six-man taxi squad for tomorrow’s opening day of the NHL season. There were no surprises on the active roster, which does include winger Kasperi Kapanen, who is currently in quarantine after arriving in Pittsburgh over the weekend.  Kapanen was late to camp because of work visa problems, which stranded him in Finland last week. The taxi squad will include forwards Anthony Angello, Frederick Gaudreau, and Drew O’Connor, defenseman Pierre-Olivier Joseph, and goaltenders Alex D’Orio and Maxime Lagace.
