At Tuesday’s (July 20th) regular meeting, Walworth County Commissioner Rick Cain responded to Commissioner Scott Schilling’s comment that the commission is “mis-informing” the public on the financial reasons for the jail opt-out.

The following was written by retired Corson County sheriff Keith Gall and sent to DRG Media Group, Mobridge and other local media outlets April 25, 2021:
“I want to take this time to finally be able to thank everyone for their support, kind words, cards, and gifts that I received since my retirement announcement on March 2
nd and last day of working for the Corson County Sheriffs Office on March 12
th. On April 17
th there was an open house at the city hall in McIntosh where many people showed up for great conversation, cake, coffee, and drinks. I want to thank my wife, Heather Gall and the Corson County Sheriff’s Office staff for planning this awesome get together. During this time, I received a crystal plaque, and to my surprise, my duty gun, a Glock model 45 9mm (which involved a hiccup ). At the April 20th meeting of the Walworth County Commission, County Treasurer Amanda Silbernagel submitted her resignation which was accepted by the board. Silbernagel’s last day will be May 7th. Commission Chairman Jim Houck read her resignation letter…
Shari Rossow will apply for grant money for the playground for the 4-H livestock area as the project moves forward.
Deb Kahl spoke on behalf of the town of Akaska, requesting free landfill tipping for 25 tons in the month of May when the population of Akaska increases. A motion to approve was passed.
A motion to hire Brad Hompe as jail construction consultant was approved for a phase one study design. Commissioner Scott Schilling voted against.

Per diem meal reimbursement was the first issue discussed at Tuesday’s (March 16th) Walworth County Commission meeting when Commissioner Kevin Holgard asked about getting receipts for meals. Claims were then approved except for the per diem rates for meals. Commissioner Rick Cain voted against the motion. County Auditor Eva Cagnones will check into whether the reimbursements should go through payroll and the matter will be on the next agenda.
A motion was approved to replace the former auditor with the new auditor to positions on county boards for purchasing, insurance, personnel policy, and 4-H complex policy committee.

At Wednesday’s (February 24th) meeting of the Walworth County Commission, Eva Cagnones was appointed “replacement auditor”, effective March 2
nd, until a new auditor is elected.
Walworth County Emergency Manager Jeff Jensen discussed some grant opportunities and the possibility of getting CPR and AED training for county employees.
After several executive sessions regarding personnel matters, a motion to hold a hearing to terminate the Director of Equalization was tabled.
Discussion was held to adopt policy changes regarding per diem travel expenses for county employees. A motion to approve the changes passed, with Commissioners Scott Schilling and Kevin Holgard voting no.
