Spotify founder says bid to buy Arsenal rejected by club owner

Spotify founder Daniel Ek has revealed he has had a bid to buy Arsenal rejected, which included elements of fan ownership and representation on the board.
The Swedish billionaire, a boyhood Arsenal fan, tweeted his interest in purchasing the north London outfit last month during protests against club owners.
The protests had followed the club’s involvement in the European Super League (ESL) project.
Arsenal were one of six English Premier League (EPL) clubs to sign up for a breakaway European competition last month before quickly withdrawing from the process less than 48 hours later.

Spotify co-founder Daniel Ek said Saturday a formal offer to buy Arsenal had been rejected by the Premier League club’s American owners. In a statement on Twitter, the Swedish tycoon said the club’s owners, Kroenke Sports, had rebuffed his bid, saying they did not need the money from a sale. “This week an offer was made to Josh Kroenke and their bankers that that included fan ownership, representation at the board and a golden share for the supporters,” Ek said.

Arsenal fans last month protested the club s attempt to join the doomed European Super League.
Daniel Ek, CEO and cofounder of Spotify, on Saturday said his takeover bid for Britain s Arsenal Football Club had been rejected, but he was still interested in the deal. I respect their decision but remain interested and available should that situation ever change, the billionaire said in a statement posted on Twitter.
Ek spoke out to confirm that he d made a bid for the Premier League club, disputing media reports that said he hadn t pursued a deal. He didn t disclose his offering price.
