Australia isnât paying the price for being a climate laggard. At least not yet.
Some of the worldâs biggest investors continue to hold Australian debt even as they pledge to shift money away from countries and assets that donât align with a low-carbon world.
More than half of Australiaâs $906 billion in government bonds were owned by foreign investors at the end of last year, up from a 16-year low in June, according to government figures. Thatâs helping make the countryâs debt among the top performers in Asia this year, while its dollar is one of the gainers among Group of 10 currencies.
