Two Todd County Central High School students have been chosen for the Governor’s Scholars Program.
Juniors Josh Gillespie and Taylor Byrd were among 1,020 high school juniors selected from across the state.
The residential program is held over five weeks on the campuses of Centre College in Danville, Morehead State University in Morehead, and Bellarmine University in Louisville. While on campus for the program, students take in-depth exploratory and inquiry classes, conduct service projects, and participate in clubs, discussions, and lecture sessions.
Students chosen for the program must complete an extensive application which includes essays, descriptions of their service, activities, and awards, teacher and community recommendations, and academic information including a standardized test score like the ACT.
Woman in 70s left shaken after being robbed at Reading cashpoint A WOMAN in her 70s was robbed as she withdrew money from a cashpoint outside Sainsbury s in the town centre yesterday (January 11). Police are appealing for witnesses following the robbery, which took place between 3pm and 4.30pm. A 74-year-old and her granddaughter had been at the Sainbury s ATM on Broad Street when a man approached them, demanding money and reaching across while she made the withdrawal and pressing a button fot a larger amount. When the cash was dispensed, he took hold of the money and twisted the victim’s hands and wrist to forcibly take it from her.
YORK â In the last three years, the York County Sheriffâs Department has seized $1.45 million in drug buy money during traffic stops on Interstate 80. It is decided on the federal level if it is indeed drug buy money â and if it is, a portion of that money is returned back to the countyâs drug fund to be used for equipment, vehicles, positions, etc., to fight the war against drug trafficking.
Now, some of that money will be used to create a new deputy position for the sheriffâs department.
