3 ARRESTED WITH DRUGS AND WEAPONS IN JOSHUA TREE

Three Desert Hot Springs men were arrested in Joshua Tree Thursday night, after they were found with drugs and a gun. About 11:40 p.m., Deputy J. Perez made a traffic stop of a vehicle on Highway 62 near Sunset Road. Inside the car were James Noal, 67, (who was driving); Sean Hatley, 43; and Kenneth Robinson, 44. During a search, Perez found a gun in Robinson’s pant pocket, a Keltec pistol, and methamphetamine was found on Hatley. James Noal was cited and released; Sean Hatley was arrested for investigation of being in possession of methamphetamine and carrying a concealed weapon; and Kenneth Robinson was arrested for investigation of being a felon in possession of a firearm. Hatley and Robinson were booked into the Morongo Basin Jail, with their bail set at $50,000 each.

Fire crews were called to the 62300 block of Crestview Drive at 11:56 a.m. County Fire Assistant Chief Scott Tuttle said the victims, which included two adults who were in the house when the fire broke out, were taken to Hi-Desert Medical Center. From the hospital, helicopters transferred the pediatric patients to other area hospitals for further care. The house was a total loss as fire crews battled the fire for about 90 minutes. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

YUCCA VALLEY MAN ACCUSED OF BEATING 3-YEAR-OLD BOY

UPDATED 12-14 11:05 a.m. with information from the District Attorney’s office. A Yucca Valley man was arrested Thursday, accused of beating a 2-year-old boy. On November 15, Sheriff’s deputies were called to a home in Twentynine Palms for a case of suspected child abuse. The boy, who had multiple bruises and marks on his legs, had just returned from a custodial visit with James Ooten Jr., 25. On December 3, an arrest warrant was issued for Ooten. When James Ooten Jr. reported to the county Probation Office in Joshua Tree Thursday morning, he was arrested on suspicion of felony child cruelty, booked into the Morongo Basin Jail, with his bail set at $250,000. The District Attorney’s office has refiled the case as felony child abuse against James Ooten.
