Illinois State Police investigated an accident Friday morning that resulted in the death of an Illinois man. The accident occurred on I-64 eastbound at milepost 128.5 in Gray Township in White County. According to police, 45-year-old Aaron K. Enoch of Pickerington, OH was driving a semi in the right lane of the interstate and a pedestrian was walking in the same area. For unknown reasons, the pedestrian stepped into the lane of traffic directly into Enoch’s semi. The pedestrian was identified as 36-year-old Dustin T. Gregory of Lovington, IL and was pronounced dead at the scene. Enoch was hurt in the accident bur refused treatment. The accident occurred just before 3:50 Friday morning.
The Wayne County Health Department will offer four remote COVID-19 vaccination clinics tomorrow for people in Phases 1A, 1B, and 1B Part Two of the vaccine rollout. 50 doses will be given per site, and clinics will be held at the Mt. Erie Ruritan Building and Orchardville Church from 10 to noon and at the Cisne Community Center and Wayne City Community Building from 1:30 to 3:30. 43-year-old Fairfield resident Jason P. Nelson was sentenced in Wayne County Circuit Court yesterday. He pleaded guilty in December to a count of domestic battery, a Class A misdemeanor. Nelson was sentenced to one year probation, and he was also ordered to pay $1,895 in fines and court costs.
Much of the listening area in and south of Wayne and Edwards counties is under a winter weather advisory until 6 tomorrow morning. A band of snow is expected to spread east along Interstate 64 late this afternoon and through the evening, with an inch of accumulation likely. Light freezing rain could also create a thin glaze on top of snow overnight.
The Albion Fire Department was called to a mobile home fire at Pleasant Hill Trailer Court yesterday afternoon. Chief Danny Iverson says an electric blanket was plugged in to an extension cord which shorted out, causing nearby clothing to catch fire. Chief Iverson reported no injuries from the incident and only minimal damage.
