Flotsam and Jetsam: Helpful friends and $1M space wine

Flotsam and Jetsam: Helpful friends and $1M space wine By Jim Carter A report in The Guardian disclosed that recent investigations have found absenteeism rampant among government workers throughout Italy. Police recently caught 35 workers, for example, who had been cheating the system at Sanremo’s town hall for at least two years. The champ, however, was a hospital worker dubbed “King of Absentees” who recently retired after skipping work for 15 years. (What? I’m s’posed to show up?) We may be tiring of Zoom calls, but not the Czech chimpanzees at Safari Park Dvur Kralove and the zoo in Brno, 150 miles away. Staff members have set up giant screens at both locations to allow the chimps to watch and interact with each other as a substitute for visiting humans. They reacted with defensive and threatening gestures at first, but have settled into behaviors just like humans watching TV. (Pass the chips, please.)
