Walking on a Rainbow (feel free to change) | Sarasota

3 hours ago Share Project PRIDE SRQ has finished a rainbow street mural in downtown Sarasota after a year of preparation. It’s been a week of work, and Joey Salamon continues to paint a rainbow on Second Street. The mix of colors and grid shapes extends from one part of the road to the next, but the ground view doesn t show everything. The real shape is revealed from above the mural connects the five-corner intersection of Cocoanut Avenue, North Pineapple Avenue and Second Street.  Project PRIDE board member Arthur Boyce, for his part, sits in the shade and greets curious onlookers as they walk up. They ask what it’s for, and the Boyce cheerily tells them it’s a new street art installation put together by the Project  PRIDE SRQ organization.

Project PRIDE unveils PrideWalk downtown Sarasota art installation

Project PRIDE unveils ‘PrideWalk’ downtown Sarasota art installation Nonprofit commissions colorful crosswalk mural to prompt conversation Spanning five crosswalks at the downtown Sarasota of Second Street with Cocoanut and Pineapple avenues, a one-of-a-kind street mural is being unveiled this weekend by Project PRIDE SRQ. The 2,500-square-foot mural is a visual representation of the local LGBTQ community, diversity and being an ally. Project PRIDE president Jordan Letschert says discussion about creating the street mural idea began a year ago. Project PRIDE used the pandemic lockdown to get creative on how to stay visible as well as show support for others. After looking at murals in LGBTQ-friendly cities around the country, the group decided on a general shape and aesthetic for the installation.
