Text message alerts CrossFitters to seek shelter as tornado tears through Jacksonville
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Around the time an EF1 tornado swept through Jacksonville’s San Jose area during Tropical Storm Elsa, a group of CrossFitters would have been jogging during their afternoon class, but they said a single text may have saved their lives.
Dicarlo Thompson, who works out at the CrossFit Total Control West on Bowdendale Avenue every day, and about 20 others had just started their 4:30 p.m. class on Wednesday when the weather went south.
Jordan Tolbert graduated from Gonzaga University (GO ZAGS!) in May of 2020 and double-majored in Broadcasting and Political Science.Â
She is from San Diego, California where she spent two summers interning at NBC 7 San Diego. During her time in Spokane, she interned for KHQ-TV as well as KXLY-TV (4 News Now).Â
Jordan was part of the GUTV Program at Gonzaga where she learned how to write, shoot, edit, and be on-camera. She spent a semester in Washington, DC where she learned all about politics, journalism, and ran social media for a womenâs entrepreneurial think tank. Â
In her free time, she enjoys running, reading, paddle boarding, and shopping. She loves the sun, green juice, and reality TV.Â
