Geelong has scraped its way back onto the AFL winners list, holding off a gutsy North Melbourne for an unconvincing 30-point win at Kardinia Park.
In other results on Sunday, Melbourne beat Hawthorn to maintain its perfect start to the season and Fremantle get home against Adelaide.
In Geelong, the Cats overcame a sluggish start and their own poor finishing to prevail 10.17 (77) to 7.5 (47) but will sweat on the match review officer s assessment of an incident involving Mitch Duncan.
AFL superstar Garry Ablett Jr. has revealed he could return to the game halfway through this season after retiring following his team s 2020 Grand Final defeat.
The 36-year-old decided to leave the game with an impressive 357 elite level matches under his belt after the Richmond Tigers convincingly beat the Geelong Cats in October last year.
His retirement came after a year where Ablett and wife Jordan were rocked by the devastating diagnosis of his son Levi, 2, with a rare degenerative disease, and the death of her mother Trudy after a cancer battle.
But in an interview with The Herald Sun on Saturday, the dual Brownlow medalist said he had spoken to Geelong officials about signing up in the mid-season draft under a short contract that would see him play in the finals.

Fremantle overcame an early Tom Mitchell master-class and a wayward afternoon by two-time Brownlow medallist Nat Fyfe to post a 15-point win over Hawthorn in Perth.
Earlier on Sunday, Melbourne enjoyed a 25-point triumph over Geelong, while Adelaide beat the Kangaroos by 41 points.
