Calayan sustains zero COVID-19 active case

CALAYAN, Cagayan, May 11 (PIA) - - While majority of the towns in mainland Cagayan are alarmed by soaring Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) active cases, the island town of Calayan has sustained its zero active case status for nine months.
The town has recorded its two cases in July of last year, who were both Locally Stranded Individuals (LSI) from the National Capital Region (NCR).
Mayor Joseph Llopis said since the two cases were recorded in their island, they enforced stiffer measures and protocols to contain the spread of the virus.

The National Intelligence Coordinating Agency (NICA) region 2, the head of the Situational Awareness and Knowledge Management (SAKM) cluster, has oriented the local officials and sectoral representatives on the deceitful recruitment tactics of the terorist group.
Regional Director Dennis Godfrey Gammad also informed the islanders on how the Communist Party of the Philippines- New Peoples Army - National Democratic Front (CPP-NPA-NDF) infiltrated the bureaucracy.

PCG Commandant Admiral George Ursabia Jr. and Calayan Island Mayor Joseph Llopis have signed the deed of donation of the 1,000 square-meter land area in the island on Tuesday, March 9.
“The establishment of Coast Guard stations and/or sub-stations at an approximately 1,000-square-meter land area in the island will not only enhance maritime law enforcement, maritime security, maritime safety, maritime search and rescue, and marine environmental protection in the norther part of Luzon, but also in the waters of the West Philippine Sea,” the Coast Guard said in a statement.
