The “Howl of a Protest” convoy of 500 tractors and utility vehicles that drove from Richmond to Nelson. The protest was organised by Groundswell NZ. It also wants the Government’s National Policy Statement for Indigenous Biodiversity, and the mapping of significant natural areas to be scrapped, as well as the new fuel tax on utes, because farmers and tradespeople do not have an alternative low-emission vehicle to use for work purposes. McKenzie and co-founder Laurie Paterson had spent the morning at the Gore A&P Showgrounds as farmers and supporters assembled. In his speech, McKenzie told the crowd of more than 1000 that ‘’if you are angry here today, you have a right.’’
